Yes — Edwards has discontinued the EST3 platform. End of life means Edwards is no longer manufacturing EST3 panels, cards, or replacement parts. Parts coming from existing distributor inventory are being depleted — some components are already unavailable. Your EST3 will not suddenly stop working, but the risk of an unresolvable failure increases over time as repair options narrow. Control Systems Inc. recommends scheduling a complimentary EST3 system assessment so you can plan an EST4 migration on your own timeline rather than responding to an emergency. The good news: Edwards designed the EST4 migration to retain existing Signature Series devices and cable infrastructure, making the upgrade significantly more cost-effective than a full system replacement.
The Edwards EDGE Series is Edwards' newest fire alarm platform — a modern touchscreen-based system designed for mid-to-large commercial buildings with scalable modular architecture and built-in cloud connectivity. The EST4 remains Edwards' flagship large-building platform with the deepest feature set and largest installed base, making it the preferred choice for very large facilities like hospitals and campuses. Both are excellent platforms — CSI can help you select the right one based on your building's size, occupancy type, and budget. We install, program, and service both EST4 and EDGE Series throughout Central Florida.
The Edwards Genesis Series are notification appliances — the devices that alert building occupants during a fire alarm event. Genesis speaker-strobes combine an audible speaker (for voice evacuation messages and NFPA 72 temporal tone) with a xenon strobe (for ADA-compliant visible notification). They are required throughout commercial buildings per NFPA 72 and must meet minimum sound pressure levels in all occupied areas. Genesis speaker-strobes are compatible with EST3, EST4, EDGE, and iO Series panels. CSI installs, services, and replaces Genesis notification appliances throughout Central Florida.
The Edwards Signature Series are addressable smoke and heat detectors compatible with all Edwards panel platforms. Each detector is individually identified — the panel knows exactly which device activated. Annual sensitivity testing is required under NFPA 72 to verify each smoke detector's optical chamber responds within its UL-listed sensitivity range. Detectors outside range must be cleaned, recalibrated, or replaced. CSI performs NFPA 72 annual inspections including full sensitivity testing for all Signature Series smoke detectors throughout Central Florida.
Yes. Control Systems Inc. can take over service, inspection, and repair of any existing Edwards system — EST3, EST4, EDGE Series, or iO Series — regardless of who originally installed it. For EST3 systems specifically, we will also provide an honest assessment of the system's remaining useful life given the end-of-life status of the platform and provide migration options and pricing. We maintain Edwards parts inventory and are trained on Edwards programming software for all platforms.
All Edwards fire alarm systems require annual inspection and testing per NFPA 72 — including all Signature Series smoke detectors (plus sensitivity testing), heat detectors, notification appliances, pull stations, supervisory devices, the control panel, and central monitoring station connection. In Florida, inspection must be performed by a licensed fire alarm contractor and documentation kept on site for the Florida State Fire Marshal. CSI provides annual NFPA 72 inspections with BuildingReports documentation accepted by all Central Florida AHJs.
